Easy toffee recipe

Easy toffee recipe

Toffee is the easiest candy to make, just follow these simple instructions.

Easy toffee recipe

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon water

Melt butter in a heavy saucepan (I used pressure cooker without lid) on medium low heat (setting 3 or 4).  Add sugar and water, and stir constantly until sugar melts and bubbles start to form.

Let the mixture cook for 12-15 minutes, constantly stirring gently.

The mixture will be bubbly. When the mixture turns golden brown color, or once you start seeing the signs of burning, take it off the heat and pour onto a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil.

If desired, add almonds or any other nuts to the mixture in the end, prior to pouring out.

Right after pouring, toffee can be cut into squares with a knife before it hardens.  Otherwise wait till it cools and break into pieces.

With only 3 ingredients, toffee is very easy make.  Ideally you will end up with the crunchy toffee.  A lot of people avoid making toffee because there are a few things that can go wrong with it.

What’s wrong with my toffee?

The common problems that can happen with the toffee is the mixture separating (you’ll know when it happens when a separate pool of butter forms on the top), toffee sticks to the teeth, toffee comes out grainy, and burning.

This is all caused by rapid change of temperatures, over stirring, under stirring, and under cooking.  For perfect toffee, don’t change the temperature settings once you start cooking it, watch it closely while cooking, and stir constantly and gently.
