How to grill the perfect steak

June 23, 2012 by admin in Food, Homepage Slider

Cooking steak on a grill is easier than you think. Follow these easy tips for a perfect crowd-pleasing steak.

Find a good butcher

The secret to a great steak is a perfect cut of a good quality meat. Ask you butcher to cut the steak about 2 inch thick.

Do not move

Once you put the stake on a grill, you should only move it once, to turn it over. Let it cook on one side, then flip to the other and cool until it’s ready. A two-inch steak takes about 15-20 minutes to cook.

Touch test

The best way to test if the stake is done to your liking is to perform a touch test by comparing the stake to the ball of your palm (near the thumb).

Rare: Circle your thumb and index finger together. The rare-cooked steak will have a soft feeling similar to the ball of your palm.

Medium rare: Circle your thumb and middle finger together. The medium rare steak will have a slightly harder feeling, similar to the ball of your palm.

Medium-well: Circle your thumb and ring finger together. The medium-well cooked steak will have the same feel as the ball of your palm.

Well done: Well done steak should feel very firm, similar to the feel of the ball of your palm if you hold your thumb and little finger together.

Let it rest

It is important after taking it off the grill to allow the steak to rest for a few minutes before serving it.
