Is working from home for you?

March 23, 2012 by admin in Career

Working from homeMany people dream of working from home. No commute, no rushing out the door in the mornings. You can sleep in and work in your pajamas. It all seems so glamorous. However, as with anything else, it comes with advantages and disadvantages.

Working from home is often the perfect situation for a stay-at-home mother. She can tend to the kids plus make money. It gives her a work/life balance. It also saves money on gas and daycare. Working at home is also ideal for those who have many appointments and need a flexible schedule. Many companies allow top employees to work at home if they live too far away from the office and are unwilling to commute.

As fun and exciting as it seems, working from home is not for everyone. It takes a lot of self-motivation and discipline to successfully get work done while not in the office. You won’t have someone telling you what to do or checking in with you all the time, so you need to be able to work independently. Plus, being home all day every day can be lonely. Although you can still communicate with co-workers and clients via e-mail, chat and telephone, it can be easy to miss chatting with your fellow employees in an office setting. However, if working from home fits your personality and you can make it work for your individual situation, then by all means, go for it!
